How to Care for a Wooden Floor
Caring for your wood floor is easy. With some simple maintenance, you’ll keep it looking beautiful for many years to come. We’ve put together this easy-to-read guide, “How To Care for a Wooden Floor”, with everything you need to know.
1. Keep it clean
It’s important to prevent the accumulation of grit and dust as it can scratch and dull the lacquered surface. Do this with daily sweeping with a soft bristle broom or dry microfiber mop.
Use barrier mats inside and outside all external doorways.
Avoid use of any oil based detergents or household cleaners. These can be abrasive and damage or dull the surface and can leave a dangerous slippery film.
If using a mop and bucket with soap solution to clean the floor, avoid using too much water ensuring the mop is almost dry before application.
Wood Flooring – Recommended Maintenance
Daily: Sweep or dust mop
Weekly: Vacuum using the bare floor setting
Monthly: Clean with recommended wood flooring cleaner
2. Prevent scratches
Put stick-on felt pads under the legs of all furniture, such as sofas as stools to avoid any scratching. Replace them every 6 months as dirt and debris can become embedded in the pad and act like sandpaper on the flooring surface.
When moving heavy furniture, do not slide it on wood flooring. It is best to pick up the furniture to move it and to prevent scratches.
3. Clean up spills
Wipe up any spilt liquids immediately as wood will absorb liquid and expand which could affect the stability of the floor. Any stains should be removed while wet with a clean damp cloth.
